The Use of Pop Windows

Effective or Irritating: The Use of Pop Windows in
Internet Marketing
By Dolores Davis

A few years ago, pop-up windows were all the rage in
Internet marketing. It seemed that every time one
opened a web page they would be bombarded with offers
for this or that. It had gotten to the point where
surfing the Internet was almost like playing a video
game; when the ads would pop-up one would try and
close them out before another one came. This is
precisely why we have seen the decline in the use of
pop-up windows on the Internet today; surfers simply
do not even look at the pop-ups anymore. They close
the windows out before even reading the ad. Very
often, a surfer will even leave your site if there are
too many pop-up ads. They simply do not want the
hassle of closing those windows while trying to obtain
the information that your site has to offer. This
information, while valuable, is not as valuable as the
surfers time. Studies have shown however, that even
with these set backs, pop-up windows are still an
effective method of Internet marketing.

Is there some way that pop-up windows can be less
irritating and still be effective? Yes! What if the
pop ad were seen upon exiting your site instead of
entering? This would allow the surfer to obtain the
information that they need from your site, feeling
that they were able to come and go quickly without
being hassled by other ads and offers all the while
making the surfer happy. You have left the surfer
with a positive attitude and therefore are more likely
to respond to the pop advertisement. This is being
accomplished more and more by using what is being
called pop-under windows. When the surfer comes to
your site, the ad is opened discretely behind the your
web page. Then, upon leaving your site, after
obtaining all the information that they need , will
see the ad and therefore be more likely to respond.
Since the surfer has the information, he has achieved
his objective and is now open to do other things;
ideally respond to the pop under advertisement.

Not all pop-windows are created equally. There are
some things that you can do to make your pop-windows,
whether pop-up or pop-under more effective. The
pop-window should be easy to "escape" from. If the
surfer does not want to see the add, but has a hard
time closing it out, they will likely become
frustrated and could leave your site all together.
You should either use a button to that will allow the
surfer to close the window or be sure that the "x" is
easily visible. Another good idea is to use a script
that utilizes cookies. Cookie will prevent
pop-windows from overloading the surfer since you can
decide the frequency of the pop-windows, rather than
each time a page is opened. Also be sure that there
is no more than one pop-window per page.

When creating a pop-window, you will be asked to fill
out a short information form, select the length of
cookies, and choose the layout of the pop-window.
When choosing the design of the pop-window, you can
increase the effectiveness by creating a large
headline that includes benefits that will be most
appealing to the customer. You should also consider
using incentives and lastly do not ask the customer to
read a long and drawn out advertisement. Keep the
message simple yet powerful and your pop-ads will be
sure to generate profits for your site.

Business opportunities for stay at home moms

Business opportunities for stay at home moms

The biggest obstacle for the stay at home business mom is the kids. That screaming toddler is not going to be quiet when you have business calls or take that nap to let you get your work done. This will be the same child who will eat all of your post-its and stick food into your hard drive. As you are ripping your hair out and getting more and more frustrated you will wonder what the point of working at home was if you were going to still need childcare. You were probably envisioning no more commutes, flexible hours, and lunch with the kids’ everyday. Your childcare options are flexible as well that is the beauty of being self-employed.

* Childcare Co-op: Find a group of work at home parents and swap off childcare duties. You can keep track of how many hours you watch each child and use the time you accrue when you need it most. The great thing about this is it is free. The downside is that you will have to give up work time to handle other people’s children.

* Trading or Mom-swapping: This is the smaller version of co-op. this will involve you and a good friend trading off childcare days. Make sure you set clear boundaries about when you will take the other child and when they will take yours. You don’t want to be taken advantage of. You will also want to make surethe kids like each other and get along well. If they don’t then this will end up being a bad experience.

* Sitter Sharing: Share a sitter with a friend. You can have the sitter watch both kids at the same time and split the cost or use the sitter on alternate days. Make sure that you have a written agreement on how the sitter is used and what you will be paying to avoid any unseen complications.

* Barter: Trade your products and services with a neighbor or friend in exchange for childcare. This will keep you from spending money and still pay the person doing the care for you. To come up with inexpensive childcare solutions you must be a networking prowess. Spread the word that you are looking for childcare to everyone you knows. Think in terms of trading and business opportunities. You are looking for a partner in business deal. This will help you to get what you need. Some moms are lucky to have businesses that are kid friendly. They are the lucky for sure. Those ladies who have to make endless phone calls or have meetings may find that childcare of some sort is unavoidable. Try your best to get the rightchildcare for you and not spend an arm and a leg getting it.

Now that you have that all together let's get to business.

First lets evaluate home business opportunities.

When trying to start a home business, look into fields that interest you. You must enjoy what you are about to embark because you will be spending a lot of time in this field. Just because you love something doesn’t mean it will sell though. Make sure that what you pick has a market. You want paying customers to come to your site and buy what you have to offer. So where can you go to find out some great business opportunities? Well you can go into your browser and type in different subjects and see what other people are doing with them. You can also look on marketing sites for the hottest trends in business. Remember that these sites are also businesses and will offer you products as well as information. Make sure you know all the tools that available to you before purchasing the first book or start up kit you see.

Most people want to see money and not spend it. Lets face it you will have to do some investing if you really want to succeed. But you don’t have to spend thousands. Books can be a great tool and a very inexpensive way of learning how to run your own business. Not only will these books give you a step by step way to start your business they will give you ideas of what type of businesses you can have. You can get books real cheap on Amazon. You can even use your local library but it would be better to have the books constantly at your disposal. You might even want to consider such markets like eBay. You can sell products there very easily and everyone can readily find you. There are many people making an awesome living off of selling on eBay. Here are some quick tips for being a good eBay seller.

* Sell a product you know about. You will not be able to answer people’s questions if you have very limited knowledge about what you are trying to sell. This will also get you a bad name and no more bids. The more familiar with what you are selling and its potential uses the better off you are. You are the one trying to get people to buy, know your stuff.* Use eBay as your purchasing guide for what you plan on selling. Look up what people are charging for similar items. Don’t pay more than 65% of what the eBay sales history tells you. You want to buy in bulk and wholesale and know what you are being charged for per item to see if any money will be made off of it.* Ship your paid orders on the same day they buy. Buyers want fast shipping that doesn’t take three weeks to get there. Companies like Fed Ex offer online shipping and will give you an immediate 10% discount. They will also increase you discount the more volume you get. There are also tons of little tricks to selling on eBay that make life good. Listing your product Auction on a Thursday for 10 days will close out all bidders on a Sunday. Sundays are great days because people are home.
